When my parents come, I always worry about the best place for them to stay. This time, I think I made a good decision... too good, perhaps. They both won't stop talking about Abeno Harukas.

I don't think I'll be able to say much here...

Bob! This place is great! Where should I start? It was so easy to get here! It's a station, department store, office, hotel, art museum, and observation deck, and at 300m high, it's the largest skyscraper in Japan. We're staying in the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel, the newest hotel in Japan at the moment. The lobby is on the 19th floor, and the guest rooms from floors 38 to 55!

Oh, Bob! And the room! We're staying on the 45th floor, which is so high up! I can enjoy the night views while I soak up to my shoulders in the bath--which automatically fills and heats by the way (oh, I love Japan). It's divine.

Visit HARUKAS 300, the observatory on the 58th to the 60th floor, in the morning before normal opening hours because we're hotel guests? Of course! The 360-degree, unobstructed views of the city are great. We went up again in the afternoon, to the 300m heliport at the very top. It's the highest place you can go outside on a building in Japan! It was like being on the top of the world.

We took some great photos. Osaka city looked so small! Afterwards we spent the day shopping at the Kintetsu Department Store Main Store, which has the largest sales area of any Department Store in Japan: 100,000m²! When I went to the new Foreign Customer's salon on the 3.5th floor, they asked to see my passport, and gave me a Guest Coupon! Once you get it, you can use it to get 5% off almost anything, on top of the 8% duty-free price. That's a big discount off clothes, bags and cosmetics, Bob. Can you imagine how great that is?

I was going to tell you about that...

Even I was impressed at the selection of shops, Bob my boy. Aside from a good selection of retailers, there were plenty of made-in-Japan brands, like cast ironware and great knives. There were also Japanese sweets, and a great selection of Japanese souvenirs. We couldn't decide what to eat for lunch with three floors of restaurants! Do you know what really impressed us the most though, Bob?

That's right! In the hotel and the observatory, the staff wear little badges to show what language they speak! It makes it easy to find someone who can help you! You know, we're just visiting but you're so lucky to live here. Everywhere we go, people smile!

Have a break tomorrow with the Kintetsu Rail Pass? The one with unlimited travel on the Kintetsu Railway in Osaka, Nara and Kyoto, and other Nara Kotsu Bus Lines, for a really nice price? We've already brought the tickets and got the official guide map. The concierge at Kintetsu Station told us that there are many world heritage sites and temples in Nara, so we decided to get the 2-day pass instead of the 1-day.

...Great. Well, have a great time then. I guess I don't really need to say anything else here. If my parent's enjoyed it this much, then you can as well.
