Sakai City Hall Observatory Lobby
Sakai City of Osaka Prefecture became a government-designated city in 2006. The Sakai City Hall, located a three-minute walk away from the Sakaihigashi Station of the Nankai Koya Line, is a 21-story high-rise, and the top-most floor is open to all citizens as the Observatory Lobby to make City Hall a more familiar place. This floor is 80 meters from the ground with observation windows facing all directions for an exquisite 360-degree view. Immediately below is the entire view of the tomb of Emperor Nintoku, world's largest keyhole-shaped tomb, as well as the cityscape of Sakai. When the air is clear, more distant scenery can be observed, such as Mt. Ikoma and Mt. Kongo to the east, the Kansai International Airport and Mt. Rokko to the west, and Osaka Castle to the north. Open on weekdays from 9 am to 9 pm, and 10 am to 9 pm on weekends and holidays, free of charge. On the same floor are resting places and restaurants, with barrier-free amenities such as wheelchair accessible bathrooms.
