Monument Of Yosano Akiko's Birthmark
1-minute-walk from Hankai Tramway Shukuin Station and it's only tram train left in Osaka. There is a monument of Yosano Akiko's birthmark and also a monument for her poem along the main road. She is known as a woman's poet and her poem "Midaregami" is known as well. Her father owned a Japanese confectioner of old standing in Sakai City that is called Surugaya and she was the third child of Soshichi Ho(father) and Tsune(mother). She started writing a poem after she joined Osaka literally society and met Yosano Hiroshi(Tekka) and got married with him in1899. She had lived here in Sakai for 23 years untill she moved to Tokyo next year. There is a monument which is engraved her poem "Umi kohishi Shio no Tohonari Kazoetsutsu Shojyo to narishi Chichihaha no Ie" next to her monument of birthplace. There are many collections of hers such as monument of her poem and statues in Sakai City and a lot of her fan come here from all over Japan.
