There is a house site where Sen no Rikyu who succeeded Wabicha(style of Japanese tea ceremony) was born and a Tsubai which was used regularly for tea ceremony next to Sakai Rishonomori. Sen no Rikyu was born in 1522 as the first son of Totoya(wealthy merchant of fish market). When he was 17 years old, he learned tea ceremony from Kitamuki Dojin (1504-1562) and studied under Takeno Jouou (1502-1555). He worked under Oda Nobunaga and Hideyoshi as tea-server with Imai Sokyu who was also a wealthy merchant in Sakai. He managed Kitano's big tea party and had power as the best tea master on the earth. But Hideyoshi got angry with Rikyu so he comitted suicide in Tenshou era 19 years(1591) on February 28th. He died at the age of 70. He is the founder of senke school of tea ceremony and still respected as a tea master.
