Kishiwada Danjiri Kaikan

Kishiwada Danjiri Kaikan

OPEN HOURS10:00-17:00 (Last admission: 16:00)

The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival, famous nationwide, has a history of 300 years, beginning in the mid Edo Period. The Kishiwada Danjiri Kaikan is a facility where visitors can get to know the long history of this festival and experience its energy. In the event square of the facility, visitors can experience the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of the festival with the exhibition of a real danjiri (festival float) and video presentations on a 27-face multiscreen. There is also an exhibition of the danjiri of the former Kamiya-cho, created in the 12th year of the Tempo Period (1841), that was actually pulled around town from the end of the Edo Period up to the Heisei Period. This facility is full of interesting sections, including one that recreates the old townscape of the Kishu Kaido and introduces the origin of danjiri in an understandable way; a section where visitors can experience what it's like to be the Daikugata, the star of the festival who dances on the danjiri; a section that enables visitors to learn about the logistics of the festival, danjiri decorations, instruments used in danjiri music, etc.; and the Waza (skill)/Takumi (mastery) Resource Center where incredible skills of danjiri carpenters and carvers are explained.
