Expo Park

OPEN HOURS9:30-17:00 (Last admission: 16:30)

A park totaling approximately 260 hectares in area with a Japanese garden, Natural Culture Park, and a group of facilities for culture, sports, leisure and accommodation, created on the former venue of the Japan World Exposition held in 1970, in commemoration for its success. The Natural Culture Park is situated around the Tower of the Sun, the symbol of the Exposition created by the artist Taro Okamoto. It is designed so that to the west is forestry and satoyama (rural agricultural scenery), showing traditional Japanese scenery through seasonal changes, attractive nature of chirping of the birds and floral fragrances, and various forms of flowing water including waterfalls and waterwheels. To the east is a lawn in the image of plain field with the Event Square and Lawn Park where various festivals and events are held. There are also other facilities: the Japanese garden which was one of the Japanese government's exhibits during the Exposition; for cultural facilities, the National Museum of Ethnology where material and information regarding every ethnic group in the world are collected and displayed, and the International Institute for Children's Literature where approximately 650,000 books, magazines and materials regarding children's literature are collected and stored; and for a recreation facility, Expoland, among others. Get off at Banpakukinenkoen Station or Koenhigashiguchi Station of the Osaka Monorail for easy access.
