| Outline | Located next to Tennoji Station, the southern gateway to Osaka, Tennoji Park is an urban green spot like New York’s Central Park or Hyde Park in London. It was first opened in 1909 and has one of the most colorful histories of Osaka’s parks. With the 1987 Tennoji Exposition serving as a turning point, the park was refurbished and reopened as a pay park in 1990. Located in it are: Chausuyama Tumulus and Kawazokoike Pond, both interesting historical spots; the former Kuroda Clan’s rice granary, which is a building from the mid-Edo Era and designated as an Osaka Prefecture Tangible Cultural Asset; Keitakuen Garden, a wood-and-fountain-based stroll-type garden which charms and delights visitors with its natural landscapes of the four seasons; a greenhouse, mattress flower beds, and a 100-meter-long, 4-meter-wide passage decorated with a rose arch made of climbing roses. Tennoji Park is also home to the Tennoji Zoological Gardens and the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. |
